Care Guide for Genius Weft Hair Extensions
Genius Weft (also called invisible or ultra-thin weft) hair extensions combine the flat, discreet profile of hand-tied wefts with the durability and cuttability of PU wefts. They are typically installed using beaded methods (such as the invisible bead technique) and sewing.
Proper care protects the ultra-thin weft base, the attachment points (beads/thread), your natural hair, and the Remy hair itself, helping the extensions last 9–12 months or longer with regular maintenance.
Always prioritise your stylist’s specific advice for your installation and hair type.

Immediately After Installation
- Wait 24–48 hours before your first wash if recommended by your stylist (this allows any temporary products or settling to stabilise).
- Avoid tight, high-tension styles (high ponytails, tight buns) for the first few days.
- Brush gently and support the weft rows while brushing.
- Keep the root/weft area dry and free from heavy products.
Daily Care & Brushing
- Brush 2–3 times daily (morning, evening, and after activities or wind exposure) using a soft loop brush. Avoid standard paddle brushes with ball-tipped bristles that can catch on the weft.
- Always start at the ends and work upward in small sections.
- When brushing near the roots, support the weft base or bead row firmly with your free hand to absorb tension and prevent pulling on the attachments or natural hair.
- Gently separate the rows with your fingers before brushing to reduce any root matting.
- Never yank through tangles — work them out patiently from the ends.

Washing Your Genius Weft Extensions
Wash every 5–7 days (or 2–3 times per week maximum), depending on your lifestyle, scalp oiliness, and product use.
Over-washing dries out the extension hair; under-washing can lead to buildup and matting.
- Fully detangle dry hair with your extension brush before getting wet.
- Use lukewarm water only (hot water can stress attachments).
- Keep your head upright so water flows downward.
- Apply a sulphate-free, extension-safe shampoo to the scalp. Gently massage with fingertips. Avoid aggressive scrubbing or circular motions around the weft and beads.
- Allow the shampoo to rinse through the lengths. Rinse thoroughly.
- Apply conditioner or a hydrating mask only from mid-lengths to ends ONLY. Never apply conditioner, oils, masks, or leave-ins directly to the weft base, beads, or root area — this can loosen attachment points over time.
- Rinse completely, preferably with cooler water to help seal the cuticle.
- Gently squeeze out excess water (do not wring or rub). Blot with a microfibre towel or soft t-shirt.
Use dry shampoo at the roots between washes if needed to extend freshness.
Drying
- Thoroughly dry the weft base and root area after every wash, workout, or exposure to moisture. Damp wefts can lead to irritation, odour, or weakened attachment points over time.
- Blow-dry the roots and weft seam first on low-to-medium heat until completely dry.
- Then air-dry or continue blow-drying the mid-lengths and ends on low heat.
- Never sleep with wet or damp extensions.
- Always apply a moisturising oil to the lengths of the extensions before any heat styling.
Styling & Heat
- Remy human hair can be heat-styled like natural hair. Always use a moisturising oil on the lengths of the hair and keep temperatures moderate (ideally under 180–200°C / 350–390°F).
- Keep hot tools away from the genius weft base and attachement points.
- Lightweight leave-ins, serums, or oils are to be used on the mid-lengths to ends only.
- Avoid daily high-tension styles. Rotate between down styles, low ponytails, and loose looks to minimise stress on the attachments.
- Genius Wefts are excellent for updos once settled, thanks to their flat profile.
Sleeping
- Brush thoroughly before bed.
- Secure hair in a loose, low braid, low ponytail, or two low pigtails every night. This is one of the most effective ways to prevent friction matting at the weft roots.
- Sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase to reduce friction and tangling.
- Never sleep with wet hair.
Exercise, Swimming & Daily Life
- After heavy sweating, rinse the scalp if needed and fully dry the weft/root area.
- For swimming: Wet hair with clean water first, apply a leave-in conditioner as a barrier if desired, wear a swim cap when possible, and wash + thoroughly dry the roots and wefts immediately afterward. Chlorine and salt water can dry out the hair.
- After rain, humidity, or saunas, ensure the base of the weft is fully dried.
- Protect hair in windy conditions with a loose braid to reduce tangling.
Products to Use & Avoid
Recommended:
- Sulphate-free, extension-friendly shampoo and conditioner
- Lightweight dry shampoo (applied at roots, away from weft)
- Hydrating masks (mid-lengths to ends, once a week)
- Soft extension brush / loop brush
- Lightweight moisturising oils or serums for the midlengths and ends only
Avoid near the weft base and beads:
- Oils, heavy conditioners, silicone-heavy products, and alcohol-based formulas
- Regular (sulphate-containing) shampoos
- Aggressive clarifying treatments
Professional Maintenance
- Schedule move-up or maintenance appointments every 6–8 weeks. As your natural hair grows, the wefts need to be repositioned higher to prevent tension, matting, and stress on the natural hair.
- Do not attempt to adjust, cut, or remove the wefts yourself unless trained. Professional removal and reinstallation protects both the extensions and your natural hair.
- Contact your stylist promptly if you notice excessive matting, discomfort, loose beads, or uneven tension.
Extra Tips for Maximum Longevity
- Support the ultra-thin weft base whenever brushing or styling near the roots.
- Keep ends regularly trimmed to prevent split ends from travelling upward.
- Deep condition the lengths weekly for softness and shine.
- With excellent care, genius weft hair extensions can remain beautiful and reusable for multiple applications.
